September 2, 2024Are you ready for an exciting adventure to discover India’s national symbols? India is a country full of wonders and its national symbols represent its rich culture and heritage. Before beginning our activities, let us learn about each one of the Indian national symbols.
National Flag – Tricolor
The national flag of India: Tricolor or Tiranga has three stripes: saffron, white, and green. Saffron color represents courage and sacrifice, white symbolizes truth and purity, and green stands for growth and prosperity. The Ashoka Chakra, a navy blue wheel with 24 spokes in the center represents the progress of the nation.

National Anthem-Jana Gana Mana
The National Anthem of India is “Jana Gana Mana”, which was written by Rabindranath Tagore in 1911. The anthem is composed of five stanzas and is sung to the tune of a Bengali folk song. The words of the anthem tell a beautiful story about India and its people.

National Song – Vande Mataram
Vande Mataram is a Bengali poem composed by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in 1876. The poem was adopted as the national song on January 24, 1950.

National Emblem-Lion Capital of Ashoka
The national emblem of India is the Lion Capital of Ashoka, which is a sculpture of four Asiatic lions standing back-to-back, symbolizing power, courage, pride, and confidence. The motto inscribed below the emblem, “Satyameva Jayate” in Devanagari script, translates to “Truth Alone Triumphs” in English.

National Bird- Peacock

National Aquatic Mammal-Dolphin
The Ganges River Dolphin is the national aquatic mammal of India. This dolphin is found in the waters of the Ganges, Brahmaputra, and Indus river systems. It is an endangered species and is an important part of India’s aquatic biodiversity.
National Currency-Rupee
The Indian rupee is the official currency of India. The Indian rupee is one of the oldest currencies in the world still in circulation. The Reserve Bank of India is the sole issuer of currency notes in India.
